Acceptable Use Policy
What you may and may not do when using the Cycling Science Knowledge Base. Last updated: 6 July 2026.
1. Purpose
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) sets out what you may and may not do when using the Cycling Science Knowledge Base (“the KB”). It supplements our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. By using the KB, you agree to this AUP.
2. The KB Is Designed For
- Querying evidence-graded cycling and exercise science research
- Professional development and CPD for coaches and sports scientists
- Informing training programme design with current research
- Understanding the evidence base behind specific training interventions
- Academic research and education in cycling-related sports science
3. Permitted Uses
You may:
- Submit queries about cycling and exercise science topics and receive synthesised responses
- Use synthesis responses to inform your coaching practice, training decisions, or professional development
- Cite KB synthesis outputs in your own work, provided you attribute the source and evidence grade
- Export or print KB responses for your own personal professional use
- Share individual responses with athletes or clients in the context of coaching or sports science support
- Engage with your CPD usage record for the purpose of CPD documentation
4. Prohibited Uses
4.1 Scraping and Systematic Extraction
You must not use any automated tool, script, bot, crawler, or systematic manual process to:
- Extract, copy, or download KB synthesis entries in bulk
- Reconstruct or replicate the KB’s domain structure, evidence grading, or curation methodology
- Build a database or knowledge base that reproduces a substantial portion of the KB’s content
The KB’s synthesis methodology and evidence grades represent significant intellectual investment. Their systematic extraction — regardless of technical method — constitutes misappropriation of our intellectual property.
4.2 Training Competing AI or Knowledge Systems
You must not use KB content, outputs, methodology, or any derivative thereof to:
- Train, fine-tune, or improve an AI model intended for commercial or public release
- Develop a competing knowledge base or evidence synthesis service
- Create embeddings, vector representations, or structured datasets derived from KB content for commercial use
4.3 Redistribution and Commercial Exploitation
You must not:
- Republish, resell, or commercially distribute KB synthesis content without our written permission
- Create a service, product, or publication that substitutes for a KB subscription by reproducing its content
- Sub-licence your account access to others
4.4 Misuse of the Query Interface
You must not:
- Submit queries designed to circumvent monthly query limits (e.g. by creating multiple accounts)
- Attempt to extract information about the KB’s underlying architecture, curation process, or AI model through adversarial querying
- Submit queries designed to produce outputs outside the KB’s intended scope (general AI misuse, jailbreaking attempts)
- Use automated tools to submit queries at a rate that damages platform performance for other users
4.5 Harmful Application
You must not apply KB outputs in contexts where:
- A professional medical or physiological assessment is required and has not been obtained
- The user or athlete has a known or suspected medical condition that makes general training science guidance inappropriate
- The output is presented as a personal diagnosis, clinical recommendation, or substitute for regulated professional advice
4.6 Misrepresentation
You must not:
- Represent KB synthesis outputs as your own original research or analysis without attribution
- Remove or obscure evidence grades, citations, or source attributions from KB responses
- Represent KB outputs as having greater certainty or scope than the evidence grade indicates
5. AI Output Disclaimer
The KB uses artificial intelligence to synthesise and present research findings. You must understand and accept that:
- AI-generated syntheses may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information despite our curation processes
- Evidence grades indicate the quality of the underlying research, not the certainty of the AI output
- Every KB response should be evaluated against your own professional knowledge and the specific context of its application
- The final responsibility for all training, coaching, and performance decisions rests solely with you. KB outputs do not constitute coaching advice, medical advice, or a guarantee of any training outcome.
6. Professional Standards
If you are a licenced or accredited coach, sports scientist, physiotherapist, nutritionist, or other regulated professional:
- Your use of the KB does not diminish your professional obligations or duty of care
- KB outputs should be applied within the framework of your professional training and judgement
- Where a KB finding conflicts with established clinical or professional guidance, your professional obligations take precedence
- You are responsible for ensuring your use of KB outputs complies with your professional body’s requirements
7. Enforcement
If we believe you have breached this AUP, we may:
- Issue a warning
- Temporarily restrict or suspend your account access
- Permanently terminate your account
- Pursue legal remedies for material breaches, including intellectual property infringement
We may take these actions with or without prior notice, depending on the severity of the breach. We will use reasonable judgement in enforcement and will not act disproportionately for minor or inadvertent breaches.
Where we terminate an account for AUP breach, no refund of subscription fees is payable.
8. Reporting Misuse
If you become aware of misuse of the KB — including unauthorised scraping, redistribution, or other breaches — please report it to: richard@cycling-science.com
We take intellectual property protection seriously and will investigate all credible reports.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this AUP from time to time with reasonable notice. Continued use of the KB after notice of changes constitutes acceptance.
